RICHARD SMITH was born in 1851 on the Paterson, and, after being educated, learned the business of a blacksmith in his native place. Having followed this avocation for some, years at Singleton and Murrurundi, he settled in Branxton, and does the principal work in his line for the settlers and farmers in the district. The land on which the shop and dwelling house are built is the private property of our subject, who is a member of the G.U.O.O.F., a member of the Wesleyan Church, and the father of two sons and three daughters
