'Arden Hall'
John Dow arrived on the Warrior in 1830 with his sisters Agnes and Mrs.
Susannah Sempill wife of H. C. Sempill.(?Allan) Agnes married James Busby,
British resident in New Zealand in November 1832 and in December they
were reported as proceeding to New Zealand. John Dow was superintendent
at Belltrees in 1838 . He was described as a grazier of Arden Hall in
1844. Arden Hall was acquired by Dow's brother in law H.C. Sempill in
the 1830's however Sempill was in financial difficulty by the 1840's and
returned to Scotland with his family on board the 'Eweretta'
in 1842.
Hamilton Collins Sempill
'Belltrees'
This was a grant of 2560 acres to
Hamilton Collins Sempill in 1831. Sempill arrived in 1830 as Manager of
Potter Macqueen's estate Segenhoe and soon after arrival began acquiring
properties in his own name. He moved to Belltrees in 1834 however due to
financial difficulties he returned to Scotland. Belltrees then passed
into the hands of William Charles Wentworth. Wentworth did not reside at
Belltrees and in the late forties the estate was leased by James White
Junior and later acquired by the White family.
Peter McIntyre
This land was a grant to John Stewart who arrived on the Courier
in 1824. He was employed as Superintendent by Peter McIntyre but died in
March 1830. His two grants amounting to 600 acres were later purchased by
Peter McIntyre.
James White
'Broomfield'
James White arrived on the Fairfield in 1826. He was
Superintendent for the Australian Agricultural company and later
Superintendent for Dr. James Bowman at Ravensworth.
He was granted land in 1831 and together with his brother Edward made
many improvements. This estate was known as 'Broomfield'.30

Livingstone
Alexander Livingstone was granted 1560 acres near Mount Wingen by
Governor Darling on the 4th June 1830. Possession was authorised on 15th
October 1831. Situated about 4 miles north of Archibald Little's grant
on Kingdon Ponds
George Hall
George Smith Hall arrived on the
Coromandel in 1802. He purchased this 3000 acres in 1825.
Donald McIntyre
Donald was a brother of Peter McIntyre.
He arrived in Australia in 1827 on the City of Edinburgh. Land
had been reserved for him and this was converted to a grant which was
named Kayuga. An additional grant of 1440 acres on Dart Brook was
promised in 1838.
Donald McIntyre kept meteorological
record at Kayuga from his time of arrival. In 1829 he reported that
there had not been 48 hours of rainfall on his farm for more than 2
years.
Francis Little
Invermein
Francis Little was a nephew of William
Bell Carlyle. He was in occupation of this land by 1825 but
probably held a deed of grant dated earlier than this. He requested a
town allotment in Newcastle in 1825 and in 1831 married Mary Ann Fennell
nee Bell, (the sister of Archibald Bell)

William Bell

'Satur'
William Bell Carlyle was surgeon
superintendent on several convict ships in the 1830's. This was a grant
of 2000 acres by authority of Sir Thomas Brisbane dated 30 April 1823

He sold an allotment of land in Newcastle (30 perches) in 1838.
John Bingle
Puen Buen
John Bingle arrived in Australia in
1821 on the Minerva. He acquired this 1800 acres 'Puen Buen' in
the 1820's and sold when he moved to Newcastle where he died in 1882.
