DALWOOD VINEYARD.-The founder of this industry was the late George Wyndham, of Dinton, England, who arrived in this colony in 1827, and shortly afterwards established himself in the Hunter district. John Wyndham succeeded to the business in 1870, but on his death in 7.887, the concern fell into the hands of the remaining members of his family. The estate consists of 273 acres, eighty of which are under vines, and in full bearing. In 1887 the yield of wine per acre was exactly 900 gallons, and during the ten years ending in 1875 a computation showed that 810 gallons per acre was the yearly average. The proprietors have not as yet gone into extensive exportation, as the home demand is at present as much as they can supply. The cellars belonging to the estate are capable of storing 150,000 gallons, the casks varying in size from 300 to 4000 gallons. Appliances are here furnished for receiving, if necessary, 7000 gallons per day from the vineyard, in the cultivation of which an average of forty-five hands are kept constantly employed. The proprietors find it advantageous to work the vineyard by contract, which gives employment to a number of families. The forty-five hands alluded to, however, are not confined to work in the vineyard, but are employed in the cellars and in connection with the working of the estate generally
