Claim to Grant of Land. Filed by John Bingle and opposed by Thomas Horton James. Josiah Snelgrove held an order for a grant of land on the Hunter River which he conveyed to Thomas Horton James. The land together with 300 acres of Weyland's (Wealand )was transferred to John Bingle in 1827 allegedly in exchange for 640 acres John Robson had transferred to Bingle. Decision in favour of Bingle

Mr. John Bingle, widely respected and the oldest Newcastle resident, died on 10 April 1882. He had been 60 years a resident and was the pioneer of the Newcastle coal trade. Aged 80. Flags were half masted in his honour
