He was born on the banks of Cockfighter's Creek, Hunter River, NSW in October 1827 and for a number of years resided on the Hawkesbury River. He settled on the Namoi in 1841, his father being at this time the owner of Henriendi Station. In 1861 he received this station as a present from his father and resided thereon for a number of years; but eventually he removed to the town of Narrabri. He was one of the founders of the Randwick Racing Club. He may well be termed the father of sporting on the Namoi while in public matters he has always been to the fore in assisting good movements. He is life governor of the local hospital, and assists with a liberal hand every worthy objected started to benefit the district in which he is familiarly known as 'Old Charley Eather'. Mr. Eather was married in 1848 and having become a widower, contracted a second marriage in 1876.
