Details: Among the many memorials which bear tribute to the memory of a past generation of citizens few are more interesting than that of Simon Kemp, one of Newcastles first aldermen. The inscription reads - Here lies the mortal body of Mary Anne, the wife of Simon Kemp, She died on Friday July 11 1856. Also the remains of the above named Simon Kemp, who died at his residence Newcastle on 5th February 1867. Aged 76

Dobie - Thomas Fagg being seized in fee of certain freehold premises, entered into an agreement with one Simon Kemp, dated 1st March 1824 to the following effect, namely Thomas Fagg hereby agrees to grant and execute to Simon Kemp a good and sufficient lease of all that messuage or tenement for the term of 61 years at a rent of 30 pounds per annum from Midsummer, free of taxes; Simon Kemp to lay out before Midsummer a sum of money not less that 400 pounds in constructing and making two new dwelling houses to the satisfaction of John Fagg etc.....
