Details: Thomas Bray was also charged by Henry Usher with breach of trust....Henry Usher testified...On the 15th the prisoner obtained from me five and a half yards of mole skin to make two pairs of trousers he obtained before this five yards of mole skin to make a jacket and trousers. The whole of which he has not accounted for or any part and I believe he has applied it to his own end. Guilty. Sentenced to 50 lashes.

Details: LIBRAL BEQUESTS.-The Newcastle Chronicle says :-" We have to record the death of Mr. Henry Usher, an old inhabitant of this city. The deceased died possessed of consider- able property, and some of our citizens whom he remembered among his friends have reason to feel thankful for the generosity evinced towards them. The Newcastle Hospital was not forgotten, 800 having been left towards erecting a new building; 600 has likewise been left, invested in the hands of trustees, towards mproving and enlarging Christ Church.

Details: Gravestone of James Cook, Jane Usher and Henry Usher. Inscription - To the memory of James Cook who departed this life on the 21st Oct 1838 aged 72 years. Also Jane, the beloved wife of Mr Henry Usher, sister of Mr Thomas Dee of West Maitland who departed this life on 13th March 1856, aged 42 years. NCC Register of Burials lists Henry Usher who died 10 December 1863 aged 68

Details: Near the centre of the churchyard there is a grave over which is a massive stone with carved legs. The inscriptions reads - Sacred to the memory of James Cook, who died October 12 1838 aged 72. Also Jane beloved wife of Henry Usher and sister of Mr. Thomas Dee of West Maitland who died March 13 1856. In the same grave is buried Henry Usher her husband. The latter as a well known figure in Newcastle. For years he kept a store in Bolton Street where Dr. Eames surgery now stands. He amassed considerable wealth and at his death left substantial bequests to the Newcastle Hospital and the Anglican Cathedral building fund. The store subsequently passed into the hands of Mr. McCormick of whom a good story is told.
