Return of Corporal Punishment inflicted by Sentence of Magistrates in presence of S. North, Superintendent of Police. 50 lashes for being absent without leave. Had been punished several times; when tied up on this occasion he seemed to be determined to bear the punishment with as much fortitude as his fellow servant Stokes; but he soon changed his opinion, and shrunk from every lash; his back was much lacerated and bloody; he did not show any symptoms of weakness when taken down.
