Indicted for that he, on the 10th of November , at Enfield, in and upon Sophia, his wife, a subject of our Lord the King, feloniously wilfully, maliciously, and unlawfully, did make an assault, and with a certain sharp instrument, feloniously, &c. did strike and cut the said Sophia in and upon the left side of her head, with intent feloniously, wilfully, and of his malice aforethought, to kill and murder her. Found guilty and sentenced to death with a recommendation for mercy because of the strong provocation he had received
