JAMES M. YATES, Boat Builder, was born in Sydney in 1845, and learned his trade with his father at Potts Point. He married in 1867, and came up to Newcastle and commenced as a boat builder in Market Square. He has ever since carried on the same business, and builds all classes of boats, from a racing outrigger to a sailing boat. Dlr. Yates is a member of the A.P.A. and of the L.O.L. He is the father of two sons and two daughters, is an adherent of the Congregational Church, and has taken an active part in the management of one of the principal Sunday Schools in Newcastle. Mr. Yates has been a member of the New South Wales Naval Brigade for the last twenty-five years.
