Return of Corporal Punishment inflicted by Sentence of the Bench in the presence of E.A. Slade, Superintendent Hyde Park Barracks. 50 lashes for absconding. This man was never flogged before; he cried out and flinched at the punishment; the skin was lacerated at the 10th lash; the blood appeared at the 25th lash, and ran freely at the 40th lash. Twenty five lashes would have been sufficient punishment. This man was severely punished
