Details: The Singleton budget, referring to the death of the father of Messrs S. G. Roberts and W. H, Roberts, of Halls Creek, says; — There passed away on August 7, 1918. at Paynes Crossing, one of the early pioneers of the district in the person of Mr Robert Roberts, senr., at the age of 88 years. Deceased was born in Stroud, England on 28th April 1830 married his late wife (who pre deceased him August 12, four years ago), on June 18th 1852 The following year they sailed tor Australia in the German sailing vessel Mulvina Vidal, being four months and four days on the water. They settled in the Wollombi district, where they lived up till the time of their death. The deceased, who was a martyr to rheumatism, leaves behind him a grown up family of seven sons and four daughters - Edward Roberts, Paynes Crossing, John Roberts, Lochinvar, James Roberts, ( Ayr. Queensland; George Roberts, Manilla, Mrs H. Roser, Singleton, William Roberts, Manilla, Mrs. P. Regan, Manly. Mrs E, Andrews, Auckland NZ, Robert Roberts, Paynes Crossing, and and Harry Roberts,. Payne s Crossing, with whom he resided up till the time of his death. He also leaves 48 grand-children and 40 great grandchildren.
