GARRETT & SONS, Produce Merchants.-Thomas Garrett, son., was born in Tyrone, Ireland, in 1835, and in 1839 accompanied his parents to Australia. Settling in the Hunter district he devoted over forty years of his life to agricultural and pastoral pursuits, and in 1881 started business as a produce merchant, in premises situated in Blanc Street. In 1584 he leased a valuable block of land on which be erected large stores. These are admirably situated midway between the Newcastle and Honeysuckle stations. On the incorporation of the Municipality of Carrington, Mr. Garrett was elected an alderman. He filled the position of secretary of the Progress Committee which existed previous to the incorporation of the borough, and is a member of the L.O.L. Mr. Garrett is married, and has three sons and four daughters. One of the latter secured the Jones Memorial Medal for 1887, for proficiency on admission to Hurlstone College
