Account of the robbery and trial. George Barton and Joseph Birkett indicted for highway robbery at Caistor on 29th March 1822, on the person of John Twigg. Birkett to be executed. George Barton reprieved. 'Birkett, Barton and some of their dissolute companions had long been objects of terror and suspicion to their neighbours'
