Mr. James Isaac Davies, a pioneer of the Newcastle district died at Stockton, after a residence of 40 years. He was born in Pembrokeshire, Wales in 1823 and came to Sydney in the Barque Sir Edward Paget as second officer and carpenter, in 1842. Dr. Leichhardt was a passenger by the same ship. Six descendants remain three sons and three daughters. One daughter Mr. James Summerville, is a resident of Manly. Mr. Davies witnessed a demonstration in Sydney by the people who rose in protest against the landing of a shipload of convict
