Lawrence Davoran was an Attorney in Dublin when in 1791 he received a sentence of transportation to Australia for Life.  He arrived on the convict ship Boddingtons with 123 other male and 20 female convicts on 7th August 1793. His age at this time was about 29 years.   He was sent to Norfolk Island where he remained for some years before returning to Sydney. In 1806, he was sent from Sydney to Newcastle penal settlement under a sentence of 14 years after being convicted of receiving a stolen promissory note. He remained in Newcastle until 1810 when under the regime of Major Johnstone, he was permitted to return to Sydney.   Soon after the arrival of Governor Macquarie, he was employed as a clerk in the office of the Superintendent of Police, however was soon in trouble again and imprisoned for one month for 'behaviour highly indecorous and disrespectful towards the Court'. He received a pardon in June 1814 and was soon calling for all claims and demands to be submitted as he was taking the first opportunity of leaving the colony.
