Newport Lake Macquarie 1841

Land For Sale

Allotments to be sold by Mr. Stubbs located in the township of Newport, Lake Macquarie.

'There are so many proprietors of allotments in this township, and its advantages are now so well known, that any particular description of them is deemed unnecessary.

The allotments are half acre each, from section 28. Nos. 2 to 7 have a frontage to Wooloomoolloo street; 12 to 17 have a frontage to Parramatta street.

Some of former allotments have already been sold at seventy five per cent profit.

A wharf of fifty feet in length, by fifteen feet wide, has just been finished, and a vessel of twenty tons has lately completed her lading there. This circumstance alone shows that the object has been obtained of this township being a  port. Indeed, a cargo of coals may be expected form thence every day.

The town is well supplied with water, there being a plentiful supply at Woolloomoolloo street, one of the principal streets of the town.

The great Gosford and Maitland New Road, under a Government Surveyor passes through the western part of the town, and brings Gosford within the distance of fifteen miles. A road is in progress to avoid the Sugar loaf range, and open a line with the Wollombi, which, when accomplished, will make Newport a shipping place for Jerry's Plains and the Wollombi districts.

There is abundance of timber in the neighbourhood for all building purposes, and cedar is also obtained in some of the brushes. Close me.
