Index Return to Colonial Events 1807
The Sydney Gazette Sunday January 25, 1807 Yesterday morning about nine o'clock Mr. Campbell's beautiful vessel was launched, in the presence of a crowd of spectators whom the previous preparations had assembled. Many persons of the first respectability attended; and it was universally acknowledged that she went off in the finest style possible. Rushing into the arms of Neptune she underwent the usual forms of baptism, and was named the Perseverance. Her burthen exceeds 130 register tons; strength and beauty are untied in her structure; and perseverance will, we trust, insure to her as uninterrupted series of successes. |
